Important Dates:

  • Nomination Day (last day to submit nominations) – Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.
  • Election Day – Monday, November 13, 2024

Who can Run as an Election Candidate:

A person can be nominated as a candidate for Mayor or Councillor if they:

    1. are at least 18 years old on the day of the election.
    2. are not disqualified pursuant to The Local Government Election Act, 2015 or any other Act.
    3. are a Canadian citizen at the time that he/she submits their nomination paper.
    4. have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding the date on which he/she submitted their nomination paper, AND
    5. have lived in the municipality, or on land now in the municipality, for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the date on which he/she submitted their nomination paper.

Nominating a Candidate: 

Nomination papers will be available from the Town Office in person, by email, or online.  To be nominated a person must file their completed nomination paper and public disclosure statement with the Returning Officer or Nomination Officer during the nomination period (anytime up until nomination day) during normal office hours and on Nomination Day (October 9, 2024) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Filing the Nomination Paper:

A nomination form and public disclosure statement may be submitted to the Returning Officer or Nomination Officer by:

  • Dropping off at the Town Office at 202 Main Street, Eatonia
  • Registered or ordinary mail to:

Town of Eatonia, Box 237, Eatonia, SK, S0L 0Y0

The Returning Officer or Nomination Officer will accept the completed nomination paper and public disclosure statement and issue a receipt to the candidate.

After receiving a nomination, the Returning Officer or Nomination Officer will post a copy of the nomination form and public disclosure statement for public inspection.

Withdrawal of Nomination:

Nominations may be withdrawn by filing a written request with the Returning Officer signed by the nominated person.  The nominee’s signature must be witnessed by either the Returning Officer or two other people.

Nominations can be withdrawn any time up until 24 hours after the close of nominations (4:00 p.m. on October 10, 2024).

Who can Vote:

To be eligible to vote, you must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen.
  2. be at least 18 years of age.
  3. have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election.

AND EITHER

  1. have resided in the municipality, or on land now in the municipality, for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election, OR
  2. the owner of assessable land situated in the municipality, or on land now situated in the municipality, for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election.
